Last Friday evening we went and spent time with Lee's Grandpa & Grandma Snider as we were really torn about what to do with regards to our plans. Grandpa Snider gave us his blessing and said that we should go on ahead to South Carolina.....and so with peace we headed off to Ohio in route to South Carolina. It has been a roller coaster of a month. Lots of kids case conferences, Lee's masters work, my comp final, the passing of both of Lee's great grandmothers, and the uncertainty of whether a vacation was the right thing to do. I arrived at my parents house in Ohio after midnight on Friday night. Upon arrival I found myself sobbing.....just completely emotionally and physically exhausted. We headed out to Beaufort, SC early on Saturday morning. The trip took nearly 12 hours. I did lots of sleeping. It was a long ride, but exciting as the weather got gradually warmer with each pit stop we made. We arrived in SC to the southern hospitality of my Aunt B and Uncle Lowell. When my dad and his brother are together.......well it's something to witness. They act as though they are little boys again, and just laugh and enjoy each other as brothers should. I'm going to spare you the play by play details......so here are the highlights.
Saturday: played the Wii, caught up with the relatives, went to bed
Sunday: Tour of Parris Island (Marine Boot Camp) given by retired Marines Lowell D. Wagner and Loren P. Wagner, Golfing at Secessions ($100,000/yr to be a member), more Wii
Monday: Savannah, Georgia for the day. Lee spotted a BIG SHIP. Joe's Bar-B-Q w/ fried mac n cheese.
Tuesday: Men- Golfing on Parris Island. Mom & I - shopping in downtown Beaufort
Wednesday: BEACH!! Finally the sun came out! Delicious Seafood dinner. Mom attacked by an army of fire ants. Wii Bowling Tournament (I WON!?!)
Thursday: Headed home. Stopped at the Old Sheldon Church......was burnt by the British in 1779. Rebuilt in 1826 and then burned in 1865 by the Federal Army. It's a pretty amazing spot.
Friday: Picked up Toby.......who did not miss us at all as he'd spent the week playing with a Golden Retriever puppy and a Rottweiler puppy. He didn't want to come home! I was sad at his response he didn't even act like he recognized me! Oh well.
