4th of July

My parents and sister came out for 4th of July II. We had beautiful weather and put the boat in the lake on the 4th for a day of floating and riding the waverunner. To the right you will see my father (who cannot swim) riding like a mad man on the open waters. It made us (the womenfolk) quite nervous because HE CANNOT SWIM. For those of you who can swim, imagine not being able to AT ALL, being in a lake where you have no idea how far down the bottom is, and then still riding a waverunner going 25mph. It's either incredibly dumb or incredibly daring. For Dad, it's probably a mix of the two.

Thankfully there were no mishaps and Lee did not need to use his life guarding skills to save my father. He may have been able to use them to recover his cell phone but it slipped too quickly into the depths of Winona before we could save it. So our count of important things lost in Winona Lake = 1 wedding ring and 1 cell phone. Miriam also tried her hand at the waverunner and found it quite enjoyable as long as there were no other boats in the area. Lee also rode the waverunner and got pulled over by the lake police. Turns out he got a "warning ticket" for spraying us in the boat! The officer warned Lee that it is considered a misdemeanor to do that. I wish I had a photo but we were too busy trying to hear what the guy was saying to Lee! Thankfully he didn't get an actual ticket because not only do you have to pay a fine, you get points on your drivers license! The funniest part about the whole thing was that Lee didn't even get us wet THAT TIME. Had the guy seen the first time he soaked us Lee would have gotten a ticket for sure. After spending the afternoon on the lake we headed back to our house for supper and a rest. Near dusk we headed back out onto the lake to watch the fireworks out on the water. Watching fireworks out on the boat has pretty much spoiled us to watching fireworks any other way. It's the best!

As always we had a great time together. We were out on the boat all of Friday and some of Saturday. We got in one game of Settlers. We ate a lot of great food. We laughed a lot. We got a little sunburnt. And we got to be together. All in all the perfect holiday weekend...at least in my opinion.
