I hate renting.

The increase in posts is largely due to the fact that we've had a lot going on and I've gotten a bit behind. Also Lee went out of town to play in a softball tournament with his college buddies and I've been left to my own devices.

This week I was slightly discouraged at our living arrangment. We are very blessed to cheaply rent a very nice little house, with a back yard, a garage, a basement, and a land lady that allows Toby.

But renting sucks. The reasons I hate renting more and more.

1. Our house is very small. I'm a hostess. I would like to have people over......for dinner, to hang out, etc. But our kitchen only has room for a table for two, there is no other room to put a dinner table in, and the rest of the house is quite cramped even for one more couple.

2. We have not bought any type of furniture or decorations since moving in because 1) it won't fit and 2) what's the point of buying stuff for this house when someday we will move and want things for our "forever home". So this leaves us with some things we hodge podged together from our college lives, my Indianapolis apartment, and wedding gifts.

3. We do all sorts of things to make this place look nice (inside/out) and eventually we will move away and the land lady will be thrilled that we've cleaned up what Lee calls the "back 40" and made improvements just because we couldn't stand not to.

4. I'm almost 30 and I'm sick of living in a house that I have to ask permission to put a hole in the wall or paint.

Buying a house seems like the obvious answer right? Well, we aren't quite there yet. Academically we have purchased 2 undergrad degrees from Indiana Wesleyan, 1 graduate degree from Grace College, and 1 graduate degree from IPFW. Total that up and we've bought a really nice house just in our education! Makes me sick! Anyway we also aren't sure yet whether we'll end up around here or in Ohio so buying is on hold as we wait for God's clear direction.

ANYWAY all this to say I decided that to make it through another year of renting I needed to spruce up at least one room of our house so we redid our office. Now the cardinal rule of redecorating is before and after pictures and I totally spaced it. So you won't know how much better it is unless you've visited our little home. And most of you haven't because we don't have room to have you over! We got permission to paint as long as it was a color that was not too drastic. We then purchased a futon.......not like a college crappy one but one that fits our space and has a full size mattress that allows for my family to have a place besides the couch to sleep when they come out to visit. Here it is in all it's glory!
The walls are bare still as I decide what things I want to hang so I can have the nail holes approved by our land lady. You may laugh, but it isn't funny! I've also put an order in with Wagner Woodworking for my dad to build a cherry cabinet to match the desk he built us. It will sit where the trash can is.
It looks so nice. Between the new room and the baby deer.......I should be able to make it one more year.

It looks awesome! I can't wait to come sleep on my new bed. :) I'm tired of renting too...I don't even want to think about how much I/we've given The Lakes over the past 5+ years. Ugghh.
